Liverpool: The Title is Not Up For Sale This Boxing Day

Liverpool have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Newcastle 4-0. Man City have failed to keep up with them, and it looks as if another team is looking to join the race in their place.

Liverpool continued their unbeaten run through their strong victory against Newcastle. Lovren netted the first goal in the 11th minute of the match. Then, within the first few minutes of the second half, Salah converted a penalty to double their lead.

Shaqiri made it three with his goal in the 79th minute and Fabinho made the final addition to the scoreline in 85th. Newcastle were out of their depth, this match was their tenth defeat this season.

Liverpool, however, are now on 51 points, six points clear of Tottenham and five points clear of Manchester City, who were shockingly defeated by Leicester City. Bernardo Silva gave City the lead in the 14th minute and, just five minutes later, Leicester equalised! It was in the last ten minutes of the game that Pereira netted the winner.

The defeat not only left Man City far from top spot on the table but it also allowed Tottenham to join the title race. Spurs have now passed City on the PL table after burying Bournemouth 5-0. Eriksen, Son (2), Lucas Moura and Kane were all goal-scorers.

Arsenal failed to get closer to fallen City after drawing 1-1 with Brighton. In fact, they are now two points below fourth-place Chelsea. Thanks to Hazard, the Blues overcame a confident Watford, winning their match 2-1.

Liverpool almost seem comfortable at the top of the table. However, it is clear that Tottenham are trying to go beyond the race for top four to compete for Liverpool’s top spot!
