Is Top Four Out of Reach for Manchester Unied

Liverpool defeated Manchester United 3-1 to go to the top of the Premier League table once again. However, this pushed United even further away from a Champions League position.

Mané gave Liverpool the lead in the 24th minute. Lingard managed to equalise for United in the 33rd, but this did not last long.

Klopp’s team overwhelmed Mourinho’s with their intensity and momentum. In the second half, Shaqiri netted two goals to secure a win for the Reds!

United are still eight points below Arsenal, who woefully lost 3-2 against Southampton. Every time Southampton scored, Mkhitaryan scored an equaliser, but he could not do the same for the last goal.

United are also now 11 points below fourth-place Chelsea, who defeated Brighton 2-1 with goals from Hazard and Pedro.

Only a game separates United from 11th place Bournemouth. Right now, they have a greater chance of finishing in the bottom half of the table than finishing in the top four.

Shocking Qualifications in the European Competitions

The top English teams, one way or another, all qualified for the next stage of the Champions and Europa Leagues. However, United were the only team get a bad result from their last group stage march .

Manchester City topped group F, five points clear of second-place Lyon after defeating Hoffenheim 2-1. LeRoy Sane scored both of their goals.

The other English teams all finished their group in second place. Liverpool crucially defeated Napoli with a clean sheet, with a single goal from Salah, to qualify for the knockout stages. Napoli, who was leading group C, ended up finishing in third place and failed to qualify.

Tottenham also achieved the impossible. They qualified after drawing 1-1 with Barcelona. This result was crucial as, like Liverpool, they finished on the same points and with the same goal difference as the team they were grappling with.

Man United also managed to qualify, but less sensationally. They lost 2-1 against Valencia, with Jones netting an own goal for the opposition.

Arsenal topped their Europa League group after defeating Qarabag 1-0 with a goal from Lacazette. Chelsea topped their group, seven points clear of second place after drawing with MOL Vidi. However, Morata woefully obtained a knee injury during the match.

After an interesting start to the European competitions, it will be interesting to see just how far the English teams can go.

The Premier League Title Race Has a New Leader

All the top teams won their Premier League match this weekend except for Manchester City. Manchester City had previously been at the top of the table but, after a difficult game against Chelsea, they lost their position.

Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 to take first position on the PL table. Salah netted a hat-trick, which was complimented by an own goal from Cook. This took the Reds to 42 points, one point above Man City who still had a game in hand.

For the Gunners, a single goal from Torreira in the 83rd minute secured their victory against Huddersfield. This momentarily pushed them to third place, while Chelsea and Tottenham still had a game in hand.

Chelsea defeated a confident Manchester City 2-0. Despite how hard Guardiola’s team pressed, the first half of the match ended with a stunning goal from Kante. The Blues then secured their victory when David Luiz doubled their lead in the 78th minute.

This meant the end of City’s unbeaten run and the inability for them to reclaim top spot on the Premier League table; whereas Chelsea went back above Arsenal on goal difference after levelling with them on points.

However, it is Tottenham that now holds third place, above the two London giants, after defeating Leicester 2-0. Goals from Son Heung-Min and Alli helped everyone to forget all about Spurs’ recent defeat against Arsenal.

Manchester United have tried to remain hovering around the top six. They thankfully managed to defeat Fulham 4-1.

The Premier League table has a new leader. Who knows what this could mean for the fate of the title.

The Gunners Silence Their Rivals; and More Premier League Action

Arsenal have had difficult fixtures recently and, yet, have managed to stay on top of their game.

After securing top spot in Europa League group E, Arsenal had to face their North London rival, Tottenham last Sunday. Spurs has previously defeated Chelsea 3-1 the previous weekend, but they were unable to perform just as well against the Gunners.

Arsenal thrashed Tottenham 4-2, with the first goal being a penalty that was converted by Aubameyang in the 10th minute. After equalising, Tottenham were also awarded a penalty which Kane netted to give his team the lead. However, it wasn’t long before Arsenal took over the game again.

Then just three days later, Arsenal had to face Manchester United. United have not been performing too well lately, but they did manage to give the Gunners a run for their money.

After Mustafi gave Arsenal the lead in the 26th minute, Martial equalised for United just four minutes later. Rojo then scored an own goal which gave the Gunners the lead once again. Luckily, within just a minute, Lingard equalised once more.

Emery’s team are now on 31 points, the same points as Chelsea after the Blues lost 2-1 to Wolves. However, Manchester City are ten point clear of both teams at the top of the table after defeating Watford 2-1.

Although, the worst might be yet to come. This Saturday, Manchester City will be facing off against Sarri’s Chelsea. The result of the game might just decide just how far ahead the leaders have gone in the title race.

Manchester is Blue, and so is London

Both Arsenal and Chelsea drew their weekend matches, making Sunday a glum day for Londoners. It was also a grilling day in Manchester, where City and United went head-to-head in a derby duel.

Chelsea drew 0-0 against Everton, despite the Blues having 15 shots at goal. Arsenal were then lucky to come back from being 1-0 down against Wolves to draw 1-1. Mkhitaryan scored the equaliser in the 86th minute.

This made it a very dismal day in London but, on the bright side, both teams still have their unbeaten run intact.

Up in Manchester, City outclassed mourinho’s United in every way. Within 12 minutes, Silva gave them the lead. This lead was then doubled by Aguero in the 48th.

Despite Martial converting a penalty to get United back in the game, Gündogan netted the third goal for City before full time. There are now 12 points separating the two teams on the table. City might aswell be the only team in Manchester!

In other news, Liverpool are back to their winning ways after defeating Fulham 2-0. Salah and Shaqiri scored the two goals in the 41st and 53rd minute respectively.

Manchester City are back at the top of the PL table. They are on 32 points, two points above second place Liverpool, and have a tremendous goal difference of 31! It looks as if they might be occupying that position for a while.

The London Clubs Qualify for Europa League Last 32

Chelsea and Arsenal played their fourth group stage match on Thursday. They have been performing well in the Europa League and, by avoiding a defeat, they have now secured their entrance into the next stage of the competition.

Chelsea defeated BATE Borisov 1-0 to top their group with two matches to go. Giroud’s goal in the 52nd minute allowed Chelsea to reach 12 points, six points clear of second place MOL Vidi in group L.

The Gunners are similarly topping their group after drawing 0-0 with Sporting Lisbon. The single point gained from the match was enough to secure their entry into the knockout stages of the Europa League, but their top spot in group E is not yet fully confirmed.

During the match Welbeck sustained a serious injury and had to be taken off the pitch on a stretcher. It is fair to say that he will not be playing for a while. We can only hope for a speedy recovery.

The London clubs are making good progress. With the next round confirmed, they can now focus on performing well in the Premier League.

It is Ours

The battle for the title is well underway as both Manchester City and Chelsea win their weekend matches to overtake Liverpool.

Manchester City crushed Southampton 6-1, with goals from Hoedt, Agüero, Silva, Sterling and Sané. The only reason why City did not get a clean sheet was because they conceded a penalty that was netted by Ings in the 30th minute.

The win took City to the top of the table with 29 points, two points clear of Liverpool. Chelsea was not far behind as they caught up to Liverpool and managed to go ahead of them on goal difference after defeating Crystal Palace 3-1.

Morata gave the Blues the lead in the 32nd minute. Townsend managed to equalise for Palace early in the second half, but it was not long before Morata reclaimed the lead for the Blues and Pedro secured it.

This season’s title is constantly being reclaimed. With Liverpool now down at third place, are they still the favourites?

Trouble at the Top

Arsenal have ended their winning run, keeping the Premier League title still at arm’s length. They are among the other top teams struggling to catch Liverpool and Manchester City.

Liverpool defeated Cardiff City 4-1, with goals from Salah (10′), Mané (66′, 87′) and Shaqiri (84′). This took them to the top of the table with 26 points.

It was then the job of the other top teams to keep in reach. Chelsea, without Hazard even playing, crushed Burnley 4-0 to reach 24 points. Morata, Barkley, Willian and Loftus-Cheek were all on the scoresheet.

Arsenal was meant to continue their winning run, which was 11 games strong, to remain on the same points as the Blues. However, their busy game schedule had clearly caught up with them.

The Gunners drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace after foolishly conceding two penalties! They ended their own winning streak and are now 4 points away from the top of the table because of it.

Manchester City humbled Tottenham with a single goal from Mahrez in the 6th minute. Not only did City catch up to Liverpool in points, they went top of the table on goal difference while keeping Spurs outside of the top four.

Tottenham are not even the worse off. Manchester United are down at 8th place, and this is after having defeated Everton 2-1.

The title race has been highly thought to be a competition between Liverpool and Manchester City. However, could other teams prove that this is not the case?

And it continues

Most teams seem to have a trend that they have set for themselves and can not break. The results of the Champions League and Europa League matches proves this.

Manchester City continue being the pride of Manchester after they defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0. They are currently topping group F and, with the spectacular football they are playing, it does not look like they will be moving from that position.

Mourinho, on the other hand, is still struggling to keep United afloat. His team lost 0-1 to Juventus after conceding a goal to Dybala. Perhaps the worse thing about it all was that it was Ronaldo, a former United legend, who assisted the goal.

Tottenham also failed to win their Champions League match, drawing 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven. Spurs are 3rd in group B and only have 1 point. It is extremely unlikely that they will progress into the knockout stages.

Instead, they will end up in Europa League, a competition in which the London clubs are excelling in. Having won their Premier League match against Leicester (3-1) to enter into the top four, Arsenal continued their winning spree.

The Gunners remain top of group E after defeating Sporting 1-0, with a goal from Welbeck in the 77th minute. They have now won 11 games in a row in all competitons.

Chelsea are also topping their group, and very comfortably at that. A hattrick from Loftus-Cheek secured their win against BATE Borisov.

Generally, the teams doing well can not stop performing well; but those performing poorly seem stuck in a rut. Mourinho, without a doubt, is now a very frustrated manager.

Barkley Back at it Again

Mourinho’s Manchester United failed to win a brutal battle against Chelsea. This was all down to Barkley, a player that has been key in the Blues’ recent matches. Mourinho, of course, was not impressed.

Rüdiger gave Chelsea the lead against United in the 21st minute, and the Blues carried this lead into second half. With the dominance the home team had shown during the first half, many thought that they would wrap up their victory in the second half.

This was not the case. United actually came from behind to take the lead after Martial scored the equaliser in the 55th minute and followed it up with another goal in the 73rd. Mourinho was overjoyed, but he did not celebrate too much in order to show respect to the fans of his former team, Chelsea.

However, when Barkley scored the equalising goal for the Blues in the final minute of extra time, the fans were over the moon and did not hesitate to show it. In fact, the over exaggerated celebration of one of the Chelsea staff members caused Mourinho to react furiously and engage in a heated confrontation.

It is never easy when top teams face each other. Everyone gets very emotional. Although, all is excused because that is the spirit of football!
