Arsenal are FA Cup Champions

Many expected the Premier League Champions, Chelsea, to defeat their London rivals, Arsenal, in the FA Cup Final. However, things did not quite turn out that way.

In fact, all chances of Chelsea’s success were blown away very quickly. Sánchez gave Arsenal the lead in the 4th minute of the match. It was a shocking goal and the Gunners defended it well.

In the second half, Moses received his second yellow card of the match, due to his dive in the penalty box. Chelsea were down to ten men, and all the attempts they had made to keep their trophy hopes alive seemed to be in vain.

Nevertheless, the Blues ended up equalising, with a goal from Diego Costa in the 76th minute. However, before the Chelsea fans could even celebrate, Ramsey responded with the winning goal for Arsenal!

Arsenal have now won 13 FA Cups, 7 of which were won under the leadership of Arsene Wenger. They are definitely a team that are always breaking records!

Now, the only question left unanswered is whether Wenger will sign a new contract, and stay with the club for another season. After today’s performance, it’s hard to see why he wouldn’t.

Manchester United are Europa League Champions

Manchester United’s experienced team defeated Ajax’s juniors to win the Europa League and, ultimately, qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Reds defeated their opposition 2-0, the goal scorers being Pogba (18′) and Mkhitaryan (48′). Although Mourinho was too skeptical to celebrate the first goal, he definitely raised his hopes of lifting the cup by the time the second goal was netted.

Manchester United might have finished 6th on the Premier League table, but all that is now irrelevant. They will be joining the top four Premier League finishers in the Champions League next season, and that is what they’ll truly be celebrating.

Arsenal now remains the only top English Club to not be participating in the Champions League next season. How times have changed! Nevertheless, we wish all the English clubs the best next year.

Who knows, just like United, the Gunners could gain success outside of the Premier League. The FA Cup Final will be played this weekend, and the only thing we know for sure is that one London club will be walking away with a trophy!

All in all, congratulations Manchester United!

Top Four Decided

After an action-packed final day of the Premier League, some teams have come out on top! Manchester City and Liverpool have both confirmed their place in the Champions League next season!

Manchester City secured third spot on the PL table with a whopping 0-5 victory over Watford. Kompany gave City the lead in the 5th minute of the game, and from then on the goals just kept coming. His goal was followed by two from Agüero, one from Fernandinho and the last from de Jesus.

Considering that the first four goals came in the first half, City were clearly not leaving anything to chance.

Liverpool on the other hand had to overcome their anxieties before truly dominating their game against Middlesbrough. The referee decided not to give a penalty to Middlesbrough in the first half of the match, which could have ruined Liverpool’s top four chances.

Instead, Liverpool were first to score a goal at the end of the first half. This confidence allowed them to score two more goals in the second half, one from Coutinho and the other from Lallana. The best part about it all was that the home fans were cheering them on all around the stadium!

Arsenal was the unlucky club that missed out by one point. However, they did put up a great final performance. Bellerín gave Arsenal the lead in the 8th minute. Then, when Arsenal went down to ten men after Koscielny received a red card six minutes later, all looked as if it would go down hill.

However, the Gunners simply stepped up to the challenge. Sánchez scored another goal for the club and, even though Arsenal conceded a penalty in the second half, Ramsey ended the game on a high note with a final goal in extra time! The Gunners were glorious!

Although Arsenal’s attempts were in vain, they’ve showed that they are a great club who we can expect great things from next season. It’s the first time in 21 years that they have finished outside the top four. However, this shocking change is perhaps what’s needed to push them to greatness. Just take Chelsea for example.

Chelsea finished tenth place last season and first this season, without the stresses of the Champions League. The Gunners might just find glory next season.

The Battle for Top Four

It is the last day of the Premier League and a huge battle for top four will take place in a few hours. Chelsea and Tottenham have both secured 1st and 2nd position respectively, so it’s left to either Manchester City, Liverpool or Arsenal to make up the numbers.

Manchester City are the most likely club to finish in a Champions League position. They defeated Crystal Palace, Leicester and West Brom this month, moving them up to 3rd place on the table.  They are two points above Liverpool and three points above Arsenal. So, the only possible way that they could fall out of top four is if they lose their final match, against Watford, and Arsenal score 5 goals. This is rather unlikely.

Liverpool also have the fate of top four in their hands. They are currently fourth place on the Premier League table, having won two of their last three matches and drawn the other. To secure their fate, they simply need to win their last game at home against Middlesbrough, a team already relegated. That shouldn’t be too hard.

Arsenal won all four of their Premier League matches this month. However, since they haven’t been consistent throughout the season, they are currently in fifth place and their hopes of top four are sitting in the hands of those above them. Not only do they need to win a tough match against Everton, they also need those above them drop enough points and concede enough goals in order to overtake them.

Arsenal have finished in top four for 20 years in a row! However, this run could come to an end very shortly.

The Premier League is coming to a close and all the action will be happening all at once. Whilst we try to predict what is to come, we must brace ourselves for the unexpected!

The FA Cup is Coming to London

The top teams battled against each other for a spot in the FA Cup Final. Chelsea faced Tottenham and Arsenal faced Manchester City and this is what came of it…

Chelsea, the Premier League leaders tore their competitor to shreds with a 4-2 victory. The Blues were quick to put to bed any false hopes Tottenham were harbouring of winning the FA Cup. This game also proved to be a big indicator of who would be the most victorious in the Premier League.

It was then a matter of who was going to face Chelsea in the final. The match between Arsenal and Manchester City was the decider.

Both teams scored a goal by the end of the 90 minutes, forcing them to play another 30 minutes of added time in order for one team to find a winning goal. Luckily, one did- and it was Arsenal!

Sánchez’s goal in the 102nd minute confirmed Arsenal’s place in the FA Cup final. Arsenal have won the cup twice in the last three years, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if they won it again this year.

The FA Cup Final will be played on May 27th. It’s going to be a big match between two great London rivals. Chelsea have already won the Premier League. Will they win another?

ARSENAL UPDATE

2017 has been an uphill battle for Arsenal, who began well but soon started to stumble. As we reach the end of the Premier League season, it’s hard to see how much they can make of their last few games whilst in their current form.

Since February the Gunners have been struggling to maintain any sort of winning streak, and haven’t really been managing to draw matches either. They faced a heaving 3-1 defeat against Chelsea and a hefty 5-1 defeat from Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Then in March, both Liverpool and West Brom defeated the Gunners 3-1; and the Reds also suffered another 5-1 against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League Match. Quite understandably, they are no longer competing in Europe.

Quite frankly, they have enough troubles at home to be worrying about. Some fans have lost confidence in the team, with the uncertainty surrounding the future of Wenger and key players, such as Sanchez, at the club. After suffering a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, many, unshockingly, felt huge disappointment.

However, there is still hope. Arsenal might be currently 6th on the Premier League table, and risk finishing outside of the top four for the first time in 21 years, however, their recent win against Middlesbrough suggests that there is still hope.

The Gunners are set to play Manchester City for the FA Cup Semi final this weekend. Perhaps after a great start to the week they might just have enough motivation to gear themselves towards a trophy this year!

Clear Divisions

It appears as if distinctions are being made between the top teams that have the potential to go on to win the Premier League title and the top teams that will just finish somewhere near the top of the table. Here’s why…

After Chelsea’s brilliant 3-1 victory against Manchester City, they continued their winning streak. Diego Costa netted the winning goal for Chelsea in their game against West Brom to secure their ninth successive league win. Chelsea are 3 points ahead of second-place Arsenal, and it seems like no team can stop them (especially with Diego Costa running around)!

After defeating West Ham 5-1, Arsenal went on to destabilise FC Basel in the Champions League. They defeated the opposition 4-1, with a rewarding hat-trick from Pérez! Arsenal continued their celebrations into the weekend, as they defeated Stoke 3-1. This secured their second place position on the Premier League table, keeping them in touching distance of the leaders, Chelsea.

After losing to Bournemouth 4-3 and then drawing 2-2 with West Ham, Liverpool have fallen to third place, six points behind the leaders Chelsea. With the way the Blues are playing, it might prove too difficult to close the gap again.

Manchester City have also had their fair share of disappointments. During their match against Chelsea, the Man City players lashed out at the blue players out of frustration, causing Aguero and Fernandinho to be suspended for a few matches.

This perhaps gives reason as to why City drew 1-1 with Celtic in the Champions League, and lost 4-2 against Leicester City. They are currently sitting fourth on the Premier League table, but with the same 30 points as Liverpool. Their title hopes aren’t over yet, but only if they find a way to recover from their distress.

Now, moving down to sixth place, we find Manchester United. It’s been a tough season for them so far, but they seem to be trying to turn things around. After drawing 1-1 with Everton, they defeated  Zorya Luhansk in the Europa league and Tottenham 1-0 in the Premier League. That’s more like it.

However, we must still be aware of the fact that they’ve still got a lot to make up for. United are six points away from top four and a whopping 13 points behind Chelsea. The Premier League is a long road, and they must continue to prove themselves constantly.

The Premier League top teams are breaking up point by point. They all seem to have progressed in Europe, despite a few recent poor results. However, the Premier League is proving to be a whole different ball game!

Bouncing Blues

Last season was a disaster for Chelsea, but they’ve bounced back better than ever. They hit top of the table the week before last and they are still there now. Here’s why…

Thanks to Diego Costa, Chelsea defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 to achieve their sixth straight win in a row without conceding. This took them to first position on the Premier League table, 9 spots higher than where they finished last year.

They then maintained this lead after defeating Tottenham 2-1 at a Derby game at Stamford Bridge. Although they broke their streak of not conceding, they managed to win three points. That’s the important thing.

Good fortune has befallen the Blues since they’ve been under the management of Conte. The sorrowful fate they suffered under Mourinho is perhaps now being endured by his new team, Manchester United.

Manchester United defeated Feyenoord 4-0 to keep their Europa League hopes alive. However. They couldn’t produce the same result in their weekend Premier League match.

West Ham took the lead against United in the second minute, and the Reds only managed to net one goal to gain a single point from the game. Mourinho got so frustrated that he had to be sent to the stands in the second half of the match! Who knew things were so bad!

Mourinho is doing no better at United than at Chelsea. The Reds are currently sixth position on the Premier League table, 11 points behind the the leaders and eight points away from top four. The Premier League is definitely not theirs this season.

Fortunately, Manchester United was able to get their revenge on West Ham United by defeating them 3-1 in the EFL quarter- final. This is much more than what Arsenal were able to do, as The Gunners lost 0-2 against Southampton.

But, to be fair, Arsenal were not playing their top 11, unlike United. Clearly they have their eyes firmly focused on the Premier League, the league which Manchester United can’t keep up with.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all won their Premier League matches and are chasing down Chelsea’s top spot. Liverpool also defeated Leeds 2-0 in the English Football League!

It’s dog eat dog. All is still to play for and the race for the PL Cup, or any cup for that matter, is no where near over!

Make Way

The top Premier League clubs seemed reluctantto score goals in their Saturday matches. Not only did most of them draw, but they also gave Chelsea the opportunity to go top of the table on Sunday.

Arsenal faced Manchester United for a derby match at Old Trafford. Mourinho has never really considered Wenger as anything more than an enemy, and it came through in United’s gameplay. Mata gave the home team the lead in the 68th minute.

Unfortunately for Mourinho, United were unable to maintain their lead for the entire match. Giroud equalised for the Gunners, just before full time, and both teams left the match no better than the other. It is fair to say, however, that both managers still don’t see eye to eye.

Another team that drew was Liverpool. They played against Southampton and neither team managed to score a goal. The Reds have managed to stay at the top of the Premier League table, however, their inability to gain more points has meant that they could easily fall down the table.

Manchester City went level with Liverpool on the Premier League table after defeating Crystal Palace. Yaya Toure was first to score for City in the first half, but Palace equalised in the second. Luckily, Yaya Toure was able to wack in another goal to gain a late win for his club! What a superstar!

Both Liverpool and Manchester City have 27 points, however, with Chelsea on 25 points both teams could be overtaken when the Blues play their upcoming match. The title race has become more and more challenging, and it’s starting to show.

WE’VE GONE INTERNATIONAL INSTEAD

Arsenal were successful in their Champions League match on Wednesday. Their victories abroad make it hard to believe that they aren’t the masters of their home ground.

Ludogorets Razgrad scored two goals within the first 15 minutes of the game. Although this was worrying, Arsenal shocked us all with their response to this. Xhaka netted a goal in the 20th minute and Giroud scored the equaliser just before half time. They weren’t going to let the game end the way it started!

As the two teams were level again, all was to play for in the second half. The Gunners made sure that were the team to take advantage of the remaining time, for Giroud netted the winning goal in the 87th minute. Hurrah!

The Gunners have qualified for the last-16 round of the Champions League with two games left to go. Perhaps now they can give a bit more attention to the Premier League.

The Gunners had to face their old rival, Tottenham, for their weekend Premier League match. Although they took the lead when Wimmer netted an own goal in the 42nd minute, they conceded a penalty which put them level with Spurs when it was converted into a goal by Kane. This was irrecoverable.

Arsenal are third on the Premier League table, with a point less than the leaders, Chelsea. Even if they don’t end up winning the title race, maybe they’ll have a Champions League trophy in their hands instead!
