Moving On

Both Chelsea and Liverpool will be progressing into the third round of the League Cup. Five goals were scored in both of their qualifying matches, but the scorelines were far from the same.

Liverpool completely destroyed Burton Albion by scoring five goals and conceding none. The game was in their full control. Origi, Firmino and Sturridge (2) all contributed to the match result. Liverpool was perhaps so admirable that even Naylor, in the 61st minute, betrayed his own team and netted an own goal for Liverpool! Well, you won’t hear any complaints from the Reds!

The only shame was that the path wasn’t so clear cut for the Blues. Batshuayi, a new Chelsea signing, was the first to score against Bristol Rovers- netting a goal in the 29th minute. Moses then added to this two minutes later. However, the problem was that Hartley retaliated for Bristol Rovers just six minutes later.

Batshuayi netted another goal for Chelsea near the end of the first half but, again, this was closely followed by a successful penalty attempt by Bristol at the start of the second half. Nevertheless, the Blues were able to successfully hold onto their lead until the final whistle blew. Phew!

Chelsea and Liverpool have edged a step closer to winning the Capital One Cup! Liverpool, having won with a higher margin, might be the best bet for a Premier League team to lift the cup at the end of the entire competition.
