Arsenal faced Manchester United with hope of gaining access to the semi finals of the FA Cup. The FA Cup holders showed their superiority over United, however, they had to endure a fight to claim what they desired.
Monreal scored the first goal of the match, giving the Gunners the lead in the 20th minute. This celebration was, however, short-lived as Rooney equalised for United in the 29th! It was the Reds on the outside vs the Reds on the inside . Neither one of them was going to get off lightly.
Manchester United may have been able to recover from a drop in the first half, however, they were not able to suppress Arsenal’s mighty wrath in the second! Welbeck scored the winning goal against his former club in the 61st minute. This was clearly not taken with a pinch of salt because what followed involved diving, fustration and the sending off of Di Maria after he tugged at a referee’s shirt! Tut-tut.
Manchester United no longer have the chance of winning a trophy this season. This will be their second year running without a silverware. Arsenal, on the other hand, have what seems to be a tremendous opportunity to lift the FA Cup for the second time in a row! Can they do it? It’s in their hands…
